Here is a better picture that a friend sent me.
Since we live in the middle of orchards and such, trick-or-treating is not so much of an option. Over the hill our friends host a standing Halloween party that is appropriately designed for both adults and kids. We have hobo soup. For those elitists out there, hobo soup is where you ask everyone that is coming over to bring any kind of canned soup they want that would be enough to cover themselves. Then you dump all of them into one giant pot and we all share. The end result is always amazing. You should try it. There is a keg...and wine...and other adult appropriate drinks...we all have space and tools and we carve pumpkins.
The rules of the pumpkin contest are simple. All carving and assembly must take place at the party. We have a kid categories with prizes (big shock, everyone wins something) and adult prizes as well.

Last year Fish won with this superb carving (obviously his uncle Alpha was providing assistance) and then his bad agent aunt Filoli provided dry ice for additional effect which you can't see because of said stupid camera phone...

Now, I have been very busy reading these posts and associated comments that Julie referenced a few days ago. Poor Becca is getting pretty beat up for taking a very servant position simply stating that (very inappropriate summary of a lengthy and heartfelt position) given the orphan crisis prohibiting gay couples to adopt seems inappropriate and counter intuitive to a demonstrated need in our world. Big shock, she has received many many comments and the tone is not always supportive.
I haven't commented on her blog for a couple of reasons: 1 - I don't "blog know" her that well (how bizarre that this is a part of my vocabulary); and, 2 - I don't know how to say what I am feeling when I read this because it conjures up so many emotions, feelings and thoughts.
Some of the comments remind me of the article that rocked Julie a while ago...and I feel like at some point I do want to very proactively deal with these issues - but not today.
Becca is weary...and I knew that was coming long before the post...because little ole me, a third party observer watching this accident safely from my computer time zones away felt...weary...
BUT - today is a High Holy Day for the Homosexual Community and as such, I feel I must say
As I was driving home last night I listened to the following song over and over again when I was thinking about the warfare going on over at Becca's blog and the general insanity regarding these issues. Plus, I love this song for all you that know adoption you have to love the shout out to all "cause I'm a paper chaser!"
[Just some of the lyrics that resonated with me last night...
I know, I am odd...]
What you need to do is be thankful for the life that you got.
You know what I'm sayin'.
Stop lookin' at what you ain't got and start bein' thankful for what you do got.
Let's give it to 'em baby girl...
You're gonna be a shining star
Never mind what haters say, ignore 'em 'til they fade away
Amazing they ungrateful after all the game I gave away
Safe to say I paved the way for you cats to get paid today
Instead of being gracious they violate in a major way I never been a hater still I love them in a crazy way
It ain't that they black or white, it has an area the shade of grey
I pray for patience but they make me want to melt their face away
The hooting and the hollering, back and forth with the arguing
Where you from, who you know, what you make and what kind of car you in
Seems as though you lost sight of what's important when depositing
Your values is in disarray, prioritizing horribly
Unhappy with the riches 'cause you piss poor morally
Ignoring all prior advice and forewarning
And we mighty full of ourselves all of a sudden, aren't we?
Come walk in my shoes
And see the way I'm living if you really want to
Got my mind on my money and I'm not going nowhere
Look in the mirror and keep on shining
'Till the game ends, 'till the clock stops
We gon' post up on the top spot
Living the life, the life
I'm living my life, my life And I'm not stopping So live your life!
