Slowly coming back...

I am slowly coming back to life. Despite the continued snowdrifts of work that I need to deal with I am actually feeling some what healthy and that is a HUGE relief. I worked out last night and that felt good. Even though my hard fought treadmill purchase is having a bit of trouble. The best I can figure is the building housing our gym was probably wired as well as the house - meaning poorly and that is why I am having some juice problems. I can run for about 30 minutes or so and then it just taps out. Last night we were doing fine and then it was time to increase the speed to 7 mph and it just pooped out. So, I ended up doing some other stuff for about 45 minutes.

I was able to catch up on blog activity last night with my google reader on my phone. I really love it. The only draw back is that it is super inconvenient to comment. So I usually just read and read and read and read. Everyone has been so busy it is quite exciting.

Random thoughts for today...thinking about maybe copying Trishie's workout schedule for fun...this is intriguing to me as well, I love the idea of a progressive Iron...wondering how to get a guest blogger (my fascination with delegation continues) pretty sure you need to have one of those well organized and sophisticated blogs for that...I fell asleep last night and woke up this morning thinking about this crossfit workout...this makes me laugh and further proves my passion for Wino Wednesday (Oh, Shafer, way to make it into the news)...I am continuing my voting for this guy...and this guy...when I was washing my face this morning it felt like my face was somehow sliding around...it felt loose, I think I better understand the desire of a face lift- I wouldn't do it, but I definitely am more sympathetic...getting older blows...now back to work!

All blogging activities temporarily suspended due to an unfortunate combination of excessive amounts of work and a sudden plague.

Goodness Gracious

Well, what an interesting and amazing week.

We had this...

which was amazing...and then a number of beautiful and thoughtful posts and comments.

This is breaking my heart...

If you don't know what is going on, here is a quick recap...

I have been working like mad this week and next week will be just as busy. I probably should have gone out and met up with some friends for a drink tonight since I am just sitting at home alone right now. But by the time I got my home from work tonight all I wanted to do was put on pajamas, cuddle up with the dogs in bed and catch up on the news. [I am frankly a little shocked about that whole Africa is a country not a continent ding-dong statement...obviously I find this particularly repugnant given the humanitarian crises that are currently ravaging Africa...I hate to say we dodged a bullet when frankly it never should have been chambered.]

I ended up spending about 15 hours with a client yesterday and it turns out he and his wife are going through the adoption process right now as well. It continues to amaze me how this entire new world just opens up to you and you continue to meet people with adoption stories and experiences. This was NOT the case with fertility crap at all. In the land of lupron it feels like you are not simply alone but sentenced to a hormonal hell isolation.

I was able to call the fost adopt agency this week to check in and get information and updates on things we need to do to finish our application.

I continue to wrestle with feelings of inadequacy and stress about my abilities to parent. I start to feel confident about an older child placement and then freak myself out. But then I remember this great commercial...

and I feel better and the bigger picture becomes a bit more clear.

So, Alpha is off at a Pampers Party tonight. I don't know if your friends have this phenomenon, but here we have this ritual where the guys get together for a weekend or at least one night of all male drinking bonding hanging out...whatever they do...party before the baby arrives. The only requirement - bring diapers. I think it is pretty cute.

Here is a pic from one of their Vegas Man Showers...yes, that is Alpha just walking around carrying a 12 pack on the strip...

It is so funny to me that for a long time these sort of events would depress me and my evil green monster of insecurity and poor-me would rage. Today, I feel like my old self. I feel genuinely and completely happy for the new parents. This is odd to me because I do not feel at all settled or secure about our adoption plan and periodically indulge in thoughts that a social worker will give us a big "no" on adopting...but I feel pretty darn good and at peace. I really hope this lasts...

I have a 1/2 Marathon this weekend and my sister and sister-in-law will be running it with me. My plan is to stay together no matter how long we are out there since it is Eva Luna's first big long distance. Wino Wednesday for this week is delayed till next week. I promise to work on it this weekend.

My only assignment prior to Wino Wednesday is to clean the house since apparently my house is not able to clean itself. So I should probably tackle that monster in the morning.

Happy Halloween!

We have costumes...Silly holiday themed wine that was not nearly as bad as you might think it would be...Community vegetarian hobo soup...The dining and gathering area...The carving stations all prepped and ready for creativity... Pumpkin row awaiting judging...

A rare glimpse of the photo shy Alpha in the corner...

Fish wanted to do an aggressive bat carving, but Uncle Alpha was busy helping others which left him with his Aunt Filoli...he tried to fire me several times during the carving portion...he was 60% satisfied but then he won a prize and was ecstatic...oh, and then he received his goody bag and really didn't care anymore...I know, I know, not nearly as good as his goblin from last year...
The bat carving sucked up huge amounts of time which left me with 5 minutes to start and finish my pumpkin entry...I won first place in "Most Lame!" Pretty impressive....

A much more impressive and also prize winning pumpkin carved by my other sister-in-law...clearly we were not entered in the same category...
Tonight we opened a French Rabbit Pinot Noir, Seven Deadly Zins and a Petite Syrah for our varietal tasting test that we talked about on Wednesday...it was so much fun...I have a table of glasses waiting for me...more to come later...and it is finally raining! How amazing - rain!
